Monarch Nature is Growing! We're excited to share that Monarch Nature is working on our second Butterfly and Pollinator Garden on Long Island. Following the success of our first garden initiative in Babylon Village, we are now planning a new garden site in the heart of Port Jefferson Village. A key focus of our gardens is milkweed planting, as it is the only plant on which Monarch butterfly females lay their eggs and the sole food source for monarch caterpillars. By increasing milkweed habitat through our butterfly habitat restoration efforts, we help support the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly and contribute to local pollinator conservation. This new space will provide vital habitat for butterflies, bees, and other pollinators while creating opportunities for community engagement, education, and environmental responsibility. Stay tuned for more details, project updates, and upcoming volunteer opportunities. We look forward to bringing the community together to help make this garden flourish! Interested in getting involved? More information on volunteer opportunities will be announced soon.
So much amazing information about Monarch butterflies! Please watch the video from 60 Minutes that showcases these incredible creatures. Monarchs have traveled to a remote part of Mexico, a journey they’ve made for thousands of years, where they winter in their butterfly habitat. Now, tens of millions of these Monarch butterflies are embarking on an epic aerial journey back north, and efforts like milkweed planting are crucial for their survival along the way.
